ASBURY'S FERRY NEARLY RUN DOWN  

On James River at Swan Point Ferry only two men worked a large boat needing four oarsmen. 
They were only just able to avoid these two fast brigs in full sail. Asbury records how two young men in a canoe ferried him in rough weather, so scared that "they sometimes prayed and sometimes swore!"
